And so, the hope was high as the tide was bringing our ship ashore, the dream of a brighter better future is in the horizon as we get off board to the new world.
Here we leave the stormy ocean behind and in the early American days of colonial era start a new life.
Those are the early years of the 17th century where the first 13 colonies have been founded, and amusingly we shall enter the center of such beautiful work of art!
We walk around the streets feeling the huge space due to the wide separations between houses, and witness the Symmetrical appearance with front entry centered between even number of windows on the sides, steep roofs on top and the back yards.
Let’s climb up those few stairs to the porch and walk through the front door into a vast entry opened to the first-floor rooms, you instantly get touched by the rustic feeling of the place, walnut paneled floor that might be covered with oriental carpets, painted walls or covered with stenciling wallpaper, and painted wood work in light colors like ivory.
Go by the fireplace and delight your eyes with the artistic scenery placed around it on mantel shelves painted the same as the other wood work around.
Portraits, ship pictures, cigarette box, and group of silhouettes add up to the atmosphere and make it richer in view.
You can’t help but notice the unique characteristic of the furniture set in the house, it looks like an old painting from the work of William Sidney Mount in the Early days where you can see and admire the value of each piece.
Amongst the family members you can see how pine and chintz invaded the concept of furnishing of that era with the hint of simplicity and rust.
Shades of bright colors are falling against the walls in gail pattern drapes embracing the spirit of the early American era, matching up with the pine wing chair that might be fully upholstered with chintzaccompanied with the common butterfly table centered in the living room area amongst common davenport sofas.
You can see it in the pine ladderback chairs in the kitchen area with people gathering around a tavern table for breakfast, look around and allow the ways of simple life gets you with the rustic theme you get from the background.
It’s night time now, so we leave you at your davenport desk with some book reading to do in the light of a converted oil lamp, you can’t help but surrender to the coziness of the moment as you stay up for another hour with your favorite book.
